Void: discontinued. Last release, local setup and alternatives

Void was an open-source VS Code fork with built-in AI agents and support for locally hosted models. It is deprecated and no longer maintained: the repository was archived on 2 June 2026 and accepts no contributions. Only old releases remain, with no published local-model setup guide, so new users should move to a maintained editor agent.

Which local models fit, by machine

Checked by this site's engine at the context Void needs, with 32 GB of system RAM for MoE offload. A Mac counts three quarters of unified memory as usable.

Common problems with local models

  • Void is deprecated and gets no updates; the README sends users to old releases or to an AI-maintained list of community forks at github.com/voideditor/void-forks.
  • The forks on that list are unaffiliated with the original project and, per the list itself, not thoroughly reviewed.
